Why should you have your thesis edited?
It is an excellent idea to have your thesis professionally edited prior to submission. You should hire a professional academic editor to edit your thesis for the same reasons you should have an essay edited (see Essay Editing). However, as your thesis is a much more significant piece of work, it is even more important to ensure its quality before you submit it to your university.
You have just spent between one and four years (or sometimes longer) researching and writing your thesis, which is the most important document you will ever write. Do not let yourself down by submitting a thesis that has not been edited by a professional thesis editor. Having your thesis edited by an experienced academic editor will ensure that all your hard work is presented in the best possible way.
Postgraduate students become very close to their work as a result of writing and re-writing their chapters over an extended period. This means that it is often no longer possible to see the document clearly or to identify errors. For this reason, it is not possible for postgraduate students to edit their own work. Even the most accomplished writers and authors need someone else to edit their writing with fresh eyes.
Since your thesis or dissertation is such a lengthy document and you have spent months or years writing the chapters, there are almost always inconsistencies to be found across the thesis. A professional academic editor can ensure consistency across your thesis. You would be surprised at how many words in the English language can be presented in multiple ways, for example, ‘email’, ‘Email’, ‘e-mail’ and ‘E-mail’. Each of these four presentations of the word is correct, but it is not acceptable to use ‘e-mail’ in the first chapter of your thesis and later begin to use ‘email’. Our editors are trained to look specifically for these types of inconsistencies, which can be found in even the highest quality theses, and correct them.
If English is your second language, your thesis could contain a significant number of grammatical, spelling and other errors that need to be corrected prior to submission. The correct use of English is important to create a positive overall impression of your thesis. Further, you do not want mistakes in your writing to confuse your examiners or distract them from the important arguments you are making. The correct use of English is crucial to ensure that the research you have conducted and the arguments you are making are being reported clearly in your thesis. Your thesis is an original contribution to scholarly research in your field, but in order to make this contribution effectively, it must adhere to high academic standards for the use of the English language.
It is important to have your thesis or dissertation edited by a professional editor to ensure that it is a polished document written in clear and precise academic language, free from grammatical or other errors. Our thesis editors will also ensure that your formatting, layout, referencing and bibliography are perfect.
Our thesis editors
At Elite Editing & Tutoring, all of our thesis editors hold a PhD (doctorate) and over ten years of experience working as academic editors. We have edited countless theses for postgraduate students from all academic areas. Our thesis editors are qualified academics themselves who understand the high academic standards to which your work must adhere, because they continue to conduct research and publish in their own fields.
Our thesis editors provide professional editing services not only to postgraduate students, but also to academics. We are experienced at editing journal articles, conference papers, monographs, chapters and books that are published worldwide. It is for this reason that our thesis editors can successfully edit your Honours, Masters or PhD thesis to the standards required. It is recommended that postgraduate students do not hire editors who are not academics themselves, or who edit only for students.
Dr. Lines (our Head Editor) is one of our most experienced and highly qualified thesis editors. She wrote and edited her own PhD thesis, so she understands how important your thesis is to you. She has helped countless postgraduate students with their Honours, Masters and PhD theses by editing their work to ensure their research is presented in the best possible way. Dr. Lines is a professional editor, published author and qualified academic, who continues to publish in her field as a historian.
Dr. Clarke is another of our most experienced and highly qualified thesis editors. He has worked as a professional editor for over twenty years and has edited many Honours, Masters and PhD theses as well as many published monographs, books and journal articles. He also works as an editor and writer for an independent Australian newspaper.

They perform a slow and careful edit to ensure that the maximum number of possible improvements to your thesis can be made.
You will know exactly which thesis editor will be assigned to edit your thesis and will be able to communicate with them throughout the process. (Beware of websites that do not provide detailed and specific information about the editors who will be working on your thesis, as you cannot be confident of their qualifications or experience.)
Your thesis editor will use the Tracked Changes function on Microsoft Word so that you can see clearly all the changes that have been made to your thesis. During the editing process, your personal thesis editor will also write you a letter explaining the changes made to your thesis and providing you with information on how you can improve your own writing in the future.
Once your thesis has been edited, two versions of your document will be returned to you. The first will be the Tracked Changes version, in which you can see all the changes your editor has made. The second version is the Clean Copy, in which all these changes have been accepted. This is the version that is ready to be printed or submitted. However, we always recommend that students read over their thesis carefully after the editing process in order to read the editor’s comments and suggestions, to consider if they are happy with the editor’s changes, and to make any further changes or adjustments to the thesis prior to submitting it to the university.
After your thesis has been returned to you, your editor will be available to answer any questions you have and provide any clarifications needed on the changes made. We can even convert your final files into PDF documents for printing if you wish. We will be here to support you throughout this important final stage of your degree.

Editing guidelines and university policy
All our thesis editing conforms to the ‘Guidelines for Editing Research Theses’ (which most Australian universities have adopted as policy) and the Australian Standards for Editing Practice. If your university has its own guidelines for the professional editing of academic theses, you can simply forward us a copy when you submit your thesis for editing and we will adhere to the policy. Some universities require postgraduate students to obtain the permission of their supervisor prior to having their thesis professionally edited. We recommend that students follow the policies of their universities.
It is important to understand that the content of your thesis is your responsibility. Elite Editing & Tutoring does not write your thesis or dissertation for you. Plagiarism is a serious offence and can result in you receiving a failing grade or being expelled from your university. Elite Editing & Tutoring does not edit plagiarised content. For more information about plagiarism and academic integrity, please visit the University of New South Wales website on the subject.
